Rapid City, SD– Six months into the COVID-19 pandemic, the NDN Collective remains committed to building Indigenous power while building a future that is more just and equitable for all people and the planet. In light of the transformative and unprecedented times we are in, NDN Collective has announced Transition & Resilience grants for Indigenous Communities, Tribes, and Indigenous-led non-profits for the specific purpose of creating a ‘new and better normal.’ The deadline for grant applications has been extended to Wednesday, September 16.
“The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect every aspect of our lives,” said Gaby Strong, NDN Collective Director of Grantmaking. “There are still many unknowns as we continue to learn how to manage this virus, but what we do know is that our people can best be supported in their self-determination and in building their own solutions to sustain their communities in these pandemic times.”
The NDN Collective Transition & Resilience Grants are part of the second phase of the NDN COVID-19 Response Project, a $10 million project designed to provide immediate relief to Indigeneous people, organizations and Tribal Nations uniquely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The first phase of the project occurred between April and June of this year and provided $2.5 million in rapid response, gap support services to 95 different Tribal Nations and Indigenous-led organizations in the U.S. and Mexico.
“In these unprecedented times, the solutions to our problems have to be as great as the challenges we are faced with,” says Nick Tilsen, NDN Collective President and CEO. “The Transition & Resilience grants will support Indigenous people in self-determining innovative solutions that not only work better for Indigenous Nations, communities and people, but solutions that build upon the resilience of our people.”
For Indigenous communities, Indigenous-led non-profit organizations and Tribes with annual operating budgets of over $500,000, up to $100,000 in grant support over 12 months is available. For Indigenous communities and Indigenous-led nonprofit organizations with annual operating budgets of $500,000 and under, up to $50,000 in grant support over 12 months is available. Organizations and Tribal communities who are either grantees or were applicants during Phase 1 of the NDN COVID-19 Response Project are eligible to apply.
The deadline to apply for Phase Two of the NDN COVID-19 Response Project Transition & Resilience grants is 5 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, Wednesday, September 16.
